Birds are no doubt in decline in all cities around the world as human populations increase and feral birds thrive, so we should all appreciate what we see every day wherever we are. Some birds you see every day and others you only see once, but they are all special in their own way as they survive within the boundaries of such a large city.

I will admit that there are legitimate concerns that have been raised about falconry – birds that are not native to an area sometimes escape and become feral; humans should minimize their influence on nature. This contribution to the education of our children is invaluable. And these are just a few of the arguments against falconry.

Over the pass, trees turn to pines – one very dark Eurasian Red Squirrel in them – and peaks around us become much higher. Feral Pigeon – Columba livia dom. A Willow Tit feeds on thistle by the side of the road. Eurasian Sparrowhawk – Accipiter nisus. Common Buzzard – Buteo buteo. Eurasian Coot – Fulica atra.

You may notice a few non-commital “sp” entries and/or a few domestic/feral/hybrid forms. Squirrel Cuckoo (Piaya cayana). I know that we are all looking forward to a time when we might return to the old normal, but until then, please stay safe and keep your distance. 149 checklists were submitted, accounting for 465 species.
