I am only including them in this post to give you my real-life Kabul experience … Four species are the most easily seen in the few urban parks (into which women are not actually allowed to enter – I am not sure about female birds). Drinking water is also provided, though it looks a bit dubious in quality.

It is commonly kept in captivity and has therefore established many feral populations world-wide originating from escaped / released cage birds. University campus at Im Neuenheimer Feld, particularly in the north (turn off Berliner Straße and into the street Im Neuenheimer Feld) and south (park at the zoo, see below).

Well, Copenhagen Zoo is back in the news; a few weeks after killing a giraffe and feeding it to some lions, it went and killed some of those same lions. I’m not gong to go into the ethics and reasons behind why a zoo might want to, well, manage its stock. My reaction would be pretty much the same.

Pink Pigeons were featured on episode four of the second season of The Zoo , the excellent television series about The Bronx Zoo,* and their story was disturbing. Basically, this species is so dimwitted, it doesn’t know how to survive. Don’t these birds care about propagating their species? I know, that’s harsh.
