That family name Troglodytidae has now come to mean a barbarian, but way back when it just meant “cave-dweller” This is another reference to their more or less reclusive nature and tendency for the birds to forage in dark places and crevices. The homeowner, Fred Jordan, has been hosting visiting birders who heard of the bird through word-of-mouth since November. Many thanks to Fred Jordan for being a wonderful host with great enthusiasm for his awesome avian visitor. Third of all, the bird that was first seen on 30 October is, as of this blog posting, STILL THERE!

Hes only been birding since 2005 but has garnered a respectable life list by birding whenever he wasnt working as a union representative or spending time with his family. Larry Jordan Mar 1st, 2011 at 3:06 am I plan on doing an entire post on bird butts sometime in the future. I guess I’m one of those pervs.

Central Park White-Throated Sparrow Slaty-backed Gull (?) Fish & Wildlife comes in response to a lawsuit brought by the Center for Biological Diversity.

Fish and Wildlife Service tells states when they may propose a hunting season on cranes, and has ultimate jurisdiction over whether the states get their seasons. So we can squawk at the state wildlife departments all we want, but the USFWS has the final say. It brings to question the purpose of wildlife management. Street, N.W.
