An afternoon in the Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa

10,000 Birds

Mosethla Bush Camp guide awaits us by the open Land Rover and with a loaded rifle in front of the steering wheel, we continue into the bush (oddly, while observing lions and tigers in India, not a single rifle was in sight). A little further, there’s a family group of Savannah Elephants with two two-year olds. Sniffing us.

Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve: the Tiger Afternoon

10,000 Birds

There’s a Three-striped Palm Squirrel by the side of the track, while Jungle Bush Quails are running across it in front of our Maruti Gypsy, almost the official safari vehicle of India. Birds of Bolivia: Field Guide–A Book Review

10,000 Birds

That’s pretty amazing–Bolivia has more bird species than India! Jon Fjeldså’s contributions include many of the ducks, yellow-finches, and many other families where his images of Birds of the High Andes could be used. This unfortunately happens with the large Tanager (Thraupidae) family here.

10,000 Birds

Of course, it is quite common for human parents to set fire to their family homes in order to keep the adult children from moving back home, but this is not an issue for drongos. The researchers are quite aware of the differences between humans and birds and thus have completely ignored another explanation for this behavior.
