I agree with eBird that the Asian Glossy Starling is “fierce-looking” Appropriately, it is an invasive species in places such as Taiwan, where some papers recommend reducing the population. My cats refuse to even try Fiery Minivets.

Gantheaume Point shorebirds

From our experience the greatest risk is when the shorebirds take off in a panic flight and clip each other’s wings and several fall into the sea. The shorebirds need to consume as much as they can before they set off north with their next stop likely to be several days later in Taiwan or China.

An Agile Wallaby amongst the shorebirds

We spend quite a lot of time observing shorebirds in Broome and recently had a great experience where an Agile Wallaby hopped out of the bush at about 4pm and went straight into a flock of shorebirds to get to the sea. It was rather nice to get a report about 10 days later of one of those Great Knot feeding on a mudflat in Taiwan!
