The White’s Thrush will keep pretending to be a reptile. Fortunately, some birds seem to be ok with a concrete environment – like this Blue Rock Thrush.

The reptiles in Parque Tomás Garrido were of the crocodilian variety. But this park’s flagship non-birds could be none other than the Coati, a tropical raccoon relative. Still, this sort of wildlife experience is available in pretty much any Mexican city. I liked their attitude. Some were quite large.

Rehabbers see reptiles in glue traps, gulls entangled in fishing line, raccoons used as target practice, raptors dying from rodenticides, and songbirds shredded by domestic cats … cats like Puck. If the experience of handing over that box can be transformative instead of alienating or shaming, there’s a possibility of change.
