We walked along the coastal trail rather than along the promenade or beach, because that way we were sheltered from the fine drizzle that soon reached us. Pacific Gulls, Silver Gulls and Crested Terns favoured one rocky area and tried to shelter from the worst of the weather. West Gate Bridge from Sandringham. Mordialloc pier.

Isla Isabel – Mexico’s Galapagos

One of the sheltered bays on Isla Isabel. Lastly, due to its previous inaccessibility to humans and the absence of natural predators, the wildlife is bizarrely unafraid of humans, allowing for a truly unforgettable experience. It was made a National Park in the 1980s and is a major breeding and nesting area for over 30,000 seabirds.

Multitudes, hundreds of Brown Pelicans and Terns–Least, Common, Foster’s, Sandwich, Royal, and Caspian. Many birders left at the first drops, but I crowded with a few other birders under the shelter of the volunteer kiosk. This was the High Island Experience, I was told. It was amazing.
