On Thanking Slaughtered Sheep for Book Awards

In her blog yesterday she wrote of her experience accepting the award, and who she thanked and didn't thank. She expressed her gratitude for those she kills in her book, as well: "When I first ate a meal from one of our lambs, I thought I'd be upset, since it'd been so hard to take them to the abbattoir.

I refuse to eat pork, but eat grass-fed beef when I am making Persian food, and certain forms of chicken and lamb with other ethnic foods I consume. If a person is in a discipline in which he or she is attempting to understand a culture or wants to experience a culture, vegetarianism is nearly impossible. And why limit it to food?
