The Sacramento River NWR was established 1989 by the authority provided under the Endangered Species Act, Emergency Wetlands Resources Act, and the Fish and Wildlife Act.

Even our local Greater Sage Grouse , which now are receiving a huge effort at habitat protection, and restoration, were just those really cool birds out in the desert. Much like every beautiful sandy beach, the human encroachment is substantial. There is little doubt about the serious nature of the threat to this bird.

Increased scrutiny of practices long considered the norm in wildlife management, including predator hunts, commercial trapping, the legal culling of non-game birds like American Crows, and some of the research protocols used to track and translocate wild animals. All attempts to domesticate wild animals should be discouraged.

What could motivate gunmen (I cannot call them hunters) in two states to deliberately kill North America’s tallest and most critically endangered bird? It may be as sick as deliberately targeting an endangered species for death. That’s what you do with other game, right? Speculation is useless in acts of vandalism.

This Lion should not be shot, as it is a protected reserve that forbids shooting. Take the Selous Game Reserve in Tanzania. Because of this high density and diversity of species, the Selous Game Reserve is a natural habitat of outstanding importance for in-situ conservation of biological diversity.
