Not so with our visit to Bosque de Apache NWR in southern New Mexico. This nice little group of shorebirds, including a Killdeer, three Long-billed Dowitchers and a Spotted Sandpipers all got together for a photo. Here is my first ever group of Gamble’s Quail , hanging around a huge feeder block. eBird.org submissions – 312.

A group of exceedingly tame domestic turkeys had gathered near it, and two had decided it looked like a great roosting site. I immediately remembered the Sandra Boynton cartoon of an elephant lying down while turkeys stand upon it, with the caption “Don’t let the turkeys get you down.”

After our brief trip thru the great state of Texas, we were headed back into New Mexico, a state I was quite excited to explore. I have been all around the western states, here and there, but never spent any time in New Mexico. Our next stop was another mutually agreed upon stop, Albuquerque New Mexico. This was a first!
