According to a Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences study, human-induced climate change has doubled the area affected by forest fires in the western U.S. Birds are able to fly away, but their nests and eggs can be destroyed. This is about 35 miles West of my home. over the last 30 years. No surprise here: They fly away.

Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary was an amazing and unexpected treat, but that’s because I failed to do my research. They did flush eventually, but not because of humans. Females seem to be the only sex to sit on the eggs according to literature, but no research appears to have been done on the night time routine. They are quite happy to nest amongst the busiest sections of the beach and tolerate human traffic to some extent. They will do this to lead the intruder away from the nest area.
