As an intelligent primate, I’d much rather be an ambassador for my species in a secure environment—served the best food and tended to by top-notch veterinarians—than take my chances in a national park where poverty and corruption result in little or no protection for the non-human residents. Many sanctuaries do not permit breeding.

It is costly, it determines mating success, it defines and controls territoriality, and in some species may be communicative in other ways as well.

Lemurs are a species of primate, and reach sexual maturity between 2 and 3 years old. All species of lemurs are native to the island of Madagascar. Red-ruffed lemurs are one of nearly about 50 lemur species. Busch Gardens is home to five lemur species. 17 of a pound, at birth. They grow to be about 8 to 10 pounds.

Nineteen days later we had racked up an amazing list of 436 species, including some of Africa’s least known birds such as Congo Serpent Eagle , Yellow-footed Honeyguide , Tessmann’s Flycatcher , Yellow-bearded Greenbul , Black-collared Lovebird and much besides. We also knew we had discovered Africa’s next hot birding destination.
