It is often useful to look at satellite images on Google Earth to see where there is suitable habitat for different bird species. When we decided to go to see what bird species there were in the undeveloped areas at Changi Business Park we encountered several species of bird that we did not observe anywhere else in Singapore.

Birding Singapore Sports Hub

Another really good feature of Singapore is the excellent public transport system. We encountered over thirty species of birds around the Singapore Sports Hub on each visit and the best location we found was close to the Singapore Indoor Stadium. It is very easy to get around the island and it is also very cheap. Collared Kingfisher.

We were then able to walk down Upper Thomson Road and get public transport back to our hotel. By the time we reached the Upper Thomson Road we had a spent three hours sauntering through the park and had a list of over forty bird species. Sign for Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park. Common Gliding Lizard.

Layover in Singapore

Taxi v SMRT – The SMRT is the excellent, clean, safe, reliable, cheap transport system of Singapore. The birding is not exceptional, but you can easily see some of Singapore’s and South-east Asia’s more common species and it does throw up the occasional jewel. My favourite site in Singapore is Paser Ris. Spotted Wood-owl.
