Just had my lifer Cinereous Vulture this morning

Stopping for a large cappuccino at a drive-in McDonalds en route, soon I entered a hamlet of a dozen family homes mixed with a dozen small apartment buildings. There’s an eagle… a White-tailed Eagle , a relatively common and numerous breeding species of riparian forests along large water courses and fishponds.

Twitching a Gray Kingbird in New York

10,000 Birds

After five hours, a stop for McDonald’s and gas, lots of crappy incidental checklists in eBird, a call from Brooklyn birders saying they didn’t have the bird, and a traffic stop that somehow didn’t result in a speeding ticket, we made it to Conesus Inlet State Wildlife Management Area where we were greeted by a Yellow Warbler.

Remotest Endemic Birds

The Heard and Mcdonald Islands are also extremely remote and Clements lists the Heard Island Shag as a full species, although Sibley/Monroe lists it as a subspecies of Imperial Shag. Almost as good as someone finding an aquatic eagle with gills that preys on lanternfish at the bottom of the ocean. Gough Bunting by Ross Wanless.
