I grew up in a small town in Northern Germany. The crest of the Long-Crested Eagle looks a bit exaggerated to me – like some retro-punk wearing a mohawk decades after 1977. I was vaguely curious about the family name mousebird. The HBW describes the species as “striking”, which is well deserved.

My trips abroad were limited to short family vacations to the Cote d’Azur during the first days of January and a week-long vacation to northern Tuscany / Italy in May.
