Pied Oystercatcher breeding season is here again!

The eggs hatched out around 20th June after 28 days of incubation and the Pied Oystercatcher family were soon on the move. This moves the family closer to a reef that gets exposed on low tides and better feeding opportunities. Usually the first thing we look for when we visit Pied Oystercatcher families is look for footprints.

Pranty had a particular challenge for Florida, where exotics and feral forms of species like Mallard are seen throughout the state, especially in the southern peninsula.

I also often observe a pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles towards the hills on my left as I follow this section of trail. There is a family of feral foxes that I often encounter near Bennison Creek. There is a water trough for the dairy cows, but sometimes the Pacific Black Ducks take advantage of the trough! Bennison Creek Bridge.

Lake Indoon

After arranging to meet up with my sister and her family in Kalbarri earlier this year we had looked for a suitable camping area in between Geraldton and Perth and came across the Shire of Carnamah’s website that had information on Lake Indoon. Feral bees. The distance was approximately 4 kilometres/ 2 1/2 miles.

Jochen’s 2014 Year List

In a funny twist of fate, it seems that 2014 will be much the same as 2012 and 2013 have been, with family trips to somewhere in France and business trips to Indonesia and Kazakhstan. Jan 11 : The family gives me half a Saturday off to chase a long-staying Griffon Vulture in nearby Rheinland-Pfalz, about a 30 minutes drive from home.
