When I read the description of the Mulga Parrot on a pet website, I first thought it was an advertisement for Thai mail-order brides: “The exotic appearance of the Mulga Parrot might be what attracts you first, but it’s their personality that will win you over” ( source ). Like the figbird, it mostly feeds on fruit.

We can say with much certainty that the majority of people admire and are fascinated with the resplendent colors of macaws, parrots, toucans and hummingbirds. The quail, guans, ducks and pheasant are hunted for their meat. On top of being illegal to capture and sell birds in the country, it is also immoral. It is quite simple.

In fact, all of the images of Scarlet Macaws in this post are of the birds that live at Copan Archeological Park, birds that were seized at the border before they could be illegally exported.* If it weren’t such a horrible thing to do one might almost understand why folks would want to poach and cage Scarlet Macaws.
