Then, at 6 PM, as the sun disappeared completely over the horizon, the ducks on the pond started massing on the west end of the pond, with many small flocks from all over the pond flying in to the west end until it was basically covered with ducks. My Year so Far – Modest but Satisfactory

A lone Whooper Swan on a grey January day in Norfolk As for the ducks – I’m now up to 15 species. The birds I saw were mixed in with a flock of Tufted Ducks, their European counterparts, for they are a similar size and have very similar habits and behaviour. We have had a winter with no snow, and few frosts, so no Smew.
