Just got news that there is a new Dog Whisperer on Friday, November 6, at 9P ET/PT (World Premiere)! Life coach and “Biggest Loser&# fitness trainer Jillian Michaels whips contestants into shape, but when it comes to 14-month-old greyhound mix Seven, she is at a loss. This one sounds like it will be really interesting.

Someone wrote me and, though the person clearly was trolling to insult someone, s/he accused me of not being a vegan because of greyhounds Violet Rays and Charles Hobson Booger, III (no mention of Emily, which made me feel terribly neglectful). I tried soaking it (I soak the dogs' kibble) but she wouldn't eat it. I bought a new laser light and my husband and I have committed to using it every day and getting her to sprint around the house (away from the dogs-don't worry) for at least 15 minutes/day. Legislation forbidding cruelty to animals represents the use of coercion against the interests of the individual coerced, and not to further the interests of any other person (it may do so but need not to be justified).

Some of these discussions make me think: Boy, that Rick Berman, that FBI, those people who spend their lives using and killing animals for fun and profit--don't need to do much to bring this movement down because we're doing it ourselves. And embarrassing. I understand the need for critique and productive criticism within a movement.

On a very quiet night during a lull in the drama of the ducks, I was researching the Greyhound racing industry, and seething over its treatment of dogs as well as the support it often gets, through subsidies, to help it survive. And you can’t drive on the Interstate without seeing signs telling you when to exit for the “Dog Track.”
