In my opinion dogs would be the first to go. Although I love dogs they're too dependent on humans, it's true that stray/feral dogs can form packs and survive in the wild a regular dog like a golden retriever would get eaten by a lion instantly. Horses have a good chance. Horses live in groups.

Four months ago, I would have taken to the crowded pathway at Lafayette Heritage Trail Park like a horse to pasture, reveling in the outdoor exercise and rare time away from my new baby. The trails may have been buzzing with joggers, dog-walkers, and bikers, but the water was empty. Now, we would try again, just me and my mother.

When I agreed to read and review Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson's THE DOG WHO COULDN'T STOP LOVING (Harper 2010), the regal Charles Hobson Booger, III was still with us. He was adopted by the Masson family and was apparently the most loving dog all who met him had ever had the pleasure of being licked by. And the crying would never stop.

And when you're checking out at the health food store with your cans and bag of vegan dog food, how could that not be a seedy opportunity? Segue into horse racing. Doing it at the dog track when you don't believe in dog racing is supporting an industry you don't believe in. There are plenty of places to play poker here.

Rigorous dieting is the animal handling equivalent of a corrective jerk on the dog collar. A resident of Bend, Oregon, McGee Bennett lives on a 10-acre farm with her husband, Brad, two dogs, two cats, five llamas, 11 alpacas, and super composting red wigglers, number unknown. In essence, I was purposely yanking my body OUT OF BALANCE.

My colleague Doug wrote me an email describing the whereabouts of these “rosy finches” and my wife had to manage my excitement with horse tranquilizer… What a fantastic little birds. We also saw Prairie Dogs , Bison , Mule Deer , Abert’s Squirrel and Coyote. I flew into Denver from Mexico. We stopped at Rosie’s Diner.
