He was transporting them across state lines from Ohio to a hunting preserve in South Carolina. The deer were not tested for disease. The deer still got screwed because they ended up at the hunting preserve, but any kind of sentence for wildlife trafficking must be enforced. He was sentenced to 21 months in prison.

Lucky deer! Workers at an Ohio pet shop are used to worried pet owners bringing their animals in to be treated in the store's clinic. But an unaccompanied visit Saturday by a deer to the PetSmart in Rossfield was a first for the store. Tags: wildlife deer. She was treated and then released.

We were driving up to northwestern Michigan from our homes in Ohio (me) and West ByGod Virginia (Geoff) in search of a bird species that would be a lifer for both of us: the Bohemian Waxwing. This happened to me recently on a birding trip, with somewhat egg-on-the-face results. I was on a birding quest trip with my friend Geoff Heeter.

A woman in Ohio had a turkey crash through her windshield. Deer season is challenging enough to navigate and but everyone seems to wear orange an hunters in trees are easy to spot. In Boston, a turkey was the cause of a 2 car accident during the morning commute. There’s also another issue–the spring turkey hunting season.

She lives at Indigo Hill, an 80-acre wildlife sanctuary in Appalachian Ohio with her husband, Bill Thompson III, their children Phoebe and Liam, and their Boston terrier, Chet Baker. Most of the deer and duck hunters I know lament the loss of an old growth forest or flood-plain swamp as much as I do. Likewise for the anglers.

Ohio has tracked two families of their state-endangered breeding sandhill cranes and found them to have wintered over in Tennessee in 2010. Wicked, right?
