I came across this 2005 book from the Society & Animals Journal titled Confronting Cruelty Moral Orthodoxy and the Challenge of the Animal Rights Movement. Why and how do people campaign on behalf of a species that is not their own? Tags: animal cruelty books. Sounds interesting.

Vamsee Juluri, Professor of Media Studies at the University of San Francisco, takes me back to graduate school when he writes of the importance of the stories we tell ourselves in " Use Free Speech to Celebrate Animal Life, Not to Enjoy Their Suffering." They certainly depict cruelty to animals, right?

" It affects the way we think about animals, and affects our views on animal cruelty. Those snakes felt the same pain & suffering that a bunch of tortoises would've felt in the same situation.

If you like animals you will generally not want them to suffer and you won’t want them to go extinct. Animal rights is concerned with preventing the suffering or even use of animals by humans. Wildlife conservation is concerned with protecting wildlife at the level of species or perhaps population. It’s only natural.
