I told Rolando I didn’t feel I was really in Tabasco, because I had yet to see a cow standing in water. Then we saw a cow, standing in water. Bare-throated Tiger-Herons , a rarety elsewhere, are almost a pest here. In an unusual twist, Tiger-Herons get their name from the markings on juveniles and immatures.

Poop From The Front End Of The Bird

Many are familiar with dissecting owl pellets, but several birds will caste a pellet including hawks, eagles, gulls, herons and heck, I once witnessed a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher hack up a small one. For example, since eagles and hawks tend to rip their prey apart and have stronger digestive acids, their pellets look like wads of fur.

I also often observe a pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles towards the hills on my left as I follow this section of trail. There is a water trough for the dairy cows, but sometimes the Pacific Black Ducks take advantage of the trough! Tiger Snake. Pacific Black Ducks. As the weather warmed up the snakes became a lot more active.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Second of March 2011)

Blue Tailed BeeEater, White Bellied Sea Eagle, White Rumped Shama were other ones I particularly enjoyed.
