This year, my main challenge is identifying 700 species within the borders of Costa Rica by December 31st. Those 700 species also need to be identified by my partner Mary (the other half of Team Tyto) because the road to 700 species is one that we are walking together. Such stops have already yield the tiger-heron and dipper.

Due to the Ganges floods, their planned weekend of sailing through the labyrinth of channels turned into a week-long stay among about 270 Tigers , according to the 2011 census – the last population inhabiting mangroves and one of the highest concentrations anywhere on the planet! And tell me now – don’t you share my dream? I know you do.

The two dogs walk right next to our rover and disappear in the dark.

The fish owl is an endangered species, and before Slaght’s work, very little was known about it, especially in Russia. (It “The Volkovs took their food seriously and once they began cooking were a near-unstoppable force” (chapter 13). He wanted to do research that would have a conservation impact.

978 species were tallied this month from 163 checklists. Only 123 species appear on both sides of the life list. Cook’s Swift – Apus cooki. Rufescent Tiger-Heron – Tigrisoma lineatum. Fasciated Tiger-Heron – Tigrisoma fasciatum. Bare-throated Tiger-Heron – Tigrisoma mexicanum.
