Both animal rights groups and animal welfare groups use "compassion" frequently. Compassion" has been so diluted that most people don't bat an eyelash at the idea of " compassionate carnivores." Or vegan pumpkin pie. Then again, so do people who kill animals for a living. After all, they "love" the animals they kill.

Or how a paragraph would refer to animal rights and animal welfare as if they're interchangeable. Fighting to maintain the integrity of the words humane, love, euthanasia or compassion, is also fighting for animals. And it usually involves exchanges with non-vegans.

There is a general consensus that vegetarianism and veganism are different philosophically. And that means for the animal rights movement: Social entities like compassion, empathy and suffering are very important factors to motivate humans to change their behaviour. How about this? I don't think it's one or the other.
