Both animal rights groups and animal welfare groups use "compassion" frequently. Compassion" has been so diluted that most people don't bat an eyelash at the idea of " compassionate carnivores." Or vegan pumpkin pie. Then again, so do people who kill animals for a living. After all, they "love" the animals they kill.

Image via Wikipedia I found The Goode Family disappointing on the vegan side. One complaint many of us have with "liberals" and "progressives" is that they tend to leave veganism and animal rights out of their sphere of concern. Yeah, lots of mockery, but I didn't laugh. Maybe it's me. Are Baby Boomers killing Facebook and Twitter?

Or how a paragraph would refer to animal rights and animal welfare as if they're interchangeable. Fighting to maintain the integrity of the words humane, love, euthanasia or compassion, is also fighting for animals. And it usually involves exchanges with non-vegans. Of course , I say to myself, language is worth fighting for.

There is a general consensus that vegetarianism and veganism are different philosophically. And that means for the animal rights movement: Social entities like compassion, empathy and suffering are very important factors to motivate humans to change their behaviour. How about this? What do you think?

Bea directed me to the Animal Welfare Special Report at TheHill.com , in which Rep. A prime example of this is our concern for the welfare of animals in agriculture.". All we do as vegans is take a reality--the reality of the sentience of cats, dogs, horses, chickens, sheep, cows, etc. Translation?
