Some hummingbirds get off course–perhaps a young bird is hatched with an odd internal compass or has hit a window one too many times and heads east or north instead of south with the rest of the gang and you get odd ducks showing up in unexpected areas. Nectar that is offered now is a bonus on their southward journey.

as I was running this morning, I couldn't help wonder what the difference is between his book and The Compassionate Carnivore and the myriad others written by people who despise factory farming, yet claim to love animals (and of course love their "meat," and find a way to get it while not feeling bad about it). It's okay to choose betrayal.

Or how a paragraph would refer to animal rights and animal welfare as if they're interchangeable. Of course , I say to myself, language is worth fighting for. Fighting to maintain the integrity of the words humane, love, euthanasia or compassion, is also fighting for animals. And it usually involves exchanges with non-vegans.
