as I was running this morning, I couldn't help wonder what the difference is between his book and The Compassionate Carnivore and the myriad others written by people who despise factory farming, yet claim to love animals (and of course love their "meat," and find a way to get it while not feeling bad about it). But as I saw last summer, rehabbers who wash oiled birds know that the birds’ feathers are clean when water starts to bead up and roll off immediately after intensive washing (which does, of course, remove birds’ natural oils too). The rabbits were produced, of course, by a rabbit mill that supplies "pet" stores with live creatures whom humans will purchase without having any idea of the conditions they were produced under. The "problem with this view" that arises is that it is entirely logical to broaden one's circle of compassion beyond "pets" and to other sentient nonhumans, and Scott doesn't like that logic because it conflicts with his profit motive and his palate. At this point of course I'm waiting to hear how he views "farm" animals differently.
