Climate Change is Making Birds Bigger

Or so says a study by San Francisco State researchers using data collected from over forty years of measurements taken during bird banding. Here’s hoping that this means that some birds, at least, might be able to adapt as climate change continues.

Simple summer pleasures.

Pools of water collected on leaves and the bird smeared itself against them. It was a cool day in San Francisco, with wisps of sea mist passing through the trees. Even after taking a main jet shot to the side of the head which nearly blew it from it’s perch, it clung on for the next pass and the next one and the next.

This time I got to see Pied-billed and Least Grebes at the reservoir, along with last week’s collection of Egrets. So if you can get to New York’s Central Park, San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, or Mexico City’s Chapultepec Park, I’m sure it will be worthwhile… in 2021.
