The third in the Nanhui collection of gloriously colored flycatchers is the Blue-and-white Flycatcher. Red-billed Blue Magpies are occasionally eaten by snub-nosed monkeys. The gory details are outlined in a paper describing that the monkeys eat the head of the bird first but reject the wings.

For example, it would make a huge amount of sense for suspensory feeding monkeys to have six, not four, limbs. Er, I mean, to not include the whales when you collect data on food type, body size, and ranging patterns. Monkey is a common, not scientific, term. And that makes total sense and is a great thing to know.

To make up for our collective absence, we did a trip there last weekend. Given the ease of access (except La Selva, a site only accessible by paying a fair bit to stay there or take a guided walk), it’s kind of odd that the Birding Club of Costa Rica doesn’t visit more often.

Game was not plentiful but the highlight was finding a beautiful female Leopard with her cub next to the road, and along the Mago River, a Da Brazza’s Monkey gorging himself on figs. Mursi woman.

Finding an Asian Openbill in Singapore-second ever record!

Arriving in Singapore we soon collected our bags and got ourselves a NETS card for travel on public transport and to also use in supermarkets. Squirrels, water monitors, lizards, wild boar, macaque monkeys and more had too often stopped us in our tracks when we heard leaves rustling or odd sounds initially!
