In Defense of Bad Photos

Fortunately, I had managed a collection of very bad photos before the bird flew off. Most of our readers are not likely to be able to ID this bird, because it only occurs in Mexico and Guatemala. But it wasn’t the day’s first FOY species. And then the bird was gone. That’s a Hooded Grosbeak !

Back in the Saddle Again

The rains have ended, the sun is back out, and new species arrive each week from up north. Rufous-capped Warblers are basically Mexican endemics, although they do spill over into Guatemala and, on occasion, the southwestern United States. So I am surprised and delighted to have seen males of each species in the past few weeks.
