The population of parrotlets they studied was located on one of the many huge hatos (cattle ranches) in the Venezuelan llanos, a vast swath of flat flooded savannah in the central third of the country that drains into the Rio Orinoco. I present here an annotated collection of photos documenting the entry of new parrotlets into this world.

Another bird that was present in several forest areas that we visited was the Forest Kingfisher with its distinct spots on its wings when in flight. At high tide the shorebirds have a protection wall where they can roost on green lawn and feel safe. Cattle Egret and cattle. Australian Bustard and cattle.

The Arenal forests are very good for this species. Formerly common, their present scarcity in the country is a reminder of what happens to biodiversity when spectacular rainforest is replaced with cattle pasture. A Nightingale Wren singing in the rain. Great food : “Yum!” White-fronted Nunbirds.
