On March 11th, RPA sent the governors of all 50 states a letter and two factsheets urging them to help get their land-grant universities (LGUs) out of the meat industry. Take a moment to tell your governor you agree we must get our LGUs out of the meat industry. Many say you can’t eat meat and be an environmentalist.

He asked whether cows, chickens, sheep and some of the other animals that we eat are usually treated and killed in a humane manner. The meat industry will say yes, of course, all animals are treated and killed humanely. In my opinion, the crux of the question touches on what is “humane.” Here is my opinion.

Bea sent me a link to an article in Gourmet called " Humane Slaughterhouses ," by Rebecca Marx, that is absurd. They believe you can take a life that doesn't want to be taken in a humane way, and I don't agree. Interestingly, the campaigns of happy meaters are acknowledged for perhaps being somewhat of a scam with the next sentence.

In today's Dot Earth post " Can People Have Meat and a Planet, Too? ," Andrew Revkin explores the brave new world of growing meat cultures in vitro as a more humane and possibly more environmentally friendly way of producing meat. Every day, some people switch from meat-based diets to vegetarian diets.

Soltero's and WALO's interest in RPA's 10,000 Years Is Enough campaign to get our universities out of the meat industry, and I greatly look forward to Monday's interview! And it's a mediated human world, with billions of people each receiving thousands of messages per day, nearly 100 percent of them promoting human supremacy.
