Interestingly, the campaigns of happy meaters are acknowledged for perhaps being somewhat of a scam with the next sentence. Potent if symbolic?

ANIMAL rights groups have begun a campaign against the dairy industry's treatment of bobby calves. Australian Dairy Farmers says calves can be left unfed for 30 hours before slaughter but the RSPCA says the practice is "cruel". Here's the full article from the Weekly Times Now.

I don't think anyone is campaigning for "farm" animals to become pets, as many of us don't even think the family cat should be the family cat. All we do as vegans is take a reality--the reality of the sentience of cats, dogs, horses, chickens, sheep, cows, etc. Scott's assumption is that we profit from certain animals.
