It is a small bird of the rail species, I think, wingless, unable to fly, but can run with great speed, shelters in the tussock, and lives in a burrow.

The science currently believes that up to twenty five percent of the coral on the Great Barrier Reef could be lost to bleaching in the next forty years. Of the twenty six Sooty Oystercatchers fourteen were first year birds and would have moved to the mainland with the non-breeding flock during this time of year.

Nonprofit organizations, science, and the best intentions in the world came to the rescue with a captive breeding program, and we now have over 400 Pink Pigeons living in Mauritius, the nearby island of Ile aux Aigrettes, and the zoos hosting the breeding program, including the Bronx Zoo. Children screamed and ran for home.
