The Red-flanked Bluetail is also the subject of an otherwise relatively unremarkable paper , but it uses the interesting term “autumn obesity” Maybe this Marsh Sandpiper also suffers from autumn obesity? Thank god that this does not apply to humans. Sometimes being a member of the human race feels very embarrassing.

Not sure why they spend time in Shanghai in winter when they could come here though, but then again, I usually do not understand most of the behavior of humans either. Apparently, when breeding, the two parents divide incubation duties, with one bird taking over the daytime duties and another one the nighttime. Lucky him, right?

The bird on the photo is one of the estimated 3500-15,000 individuals still alive according to the HBW – a frightening thought given the (too) large number of humans, of which there are about 1 million times more (and of course, each of which weighs 5000 times more than the flycatcher). It is probably all downhill from here.

And managing means killing them, breeding them, and otherwise fiddling with their populations. In the majority of cases, it is humans who are to blame for the plunging numbers of animals, and Corwin is very clear about the extent to which we have destroyed the world around us. This is all very unveganly, but I went for it nevertheless.
