The lush pastures of the Aripo Livestock Station sustained herds of happy Buffalypso , a special breed of T&T beef cattle named for their Water Buffalo heritage and Calypso-happy country. And unlike a cheap meal at a fast food joint, this banquet of birds remained satisfying long after we left! In fact, it was.

Common Myna , a fairly recent introduction, is practically a specialist in dumpster diving at fast food joints, roosting under vehicles near shopping malls, and nesting in neon store signs. In the summer, Gray Kingbird breeds in significant numbers throughout the county with a pair defending territory in every strip mall.

We immediately headed to an undisclosed location where Carlos had breeding Mangrove Cuckoos staked out. Sure, it was a lifer and an unexpected one because most of the hawks have moved further north to breed by late April but Carlos did nothing to ensure that it stuck around for better looks. Of course not!
