At least they seem to understand that raising chicks is hard and annoying work and have found at least a partial solution for this problem: “co-operative breeder, up to four individuals attending chicks at one nest, at least three seen to feed chicks” (HBW).

They did flush eventually, but not because of humans. I’m sure regular visitors to this area could tell you more about how the winds and tides affect the migrating birds and when the breeders start to nest. Multitudes, hundreds of Brown Pelicans and Terns–Least, Common, Foster’s, Sandwich, Royal, and Caspian.

Having a biological child isn't supporting an exploitation industry and at odds with the goal of the cessation of animal use the way buying from a breeder or pet store is. Is raising a good citizen of the planet more important than the carbon footprints of two vegans who live relatively modest lives? Another "which is more important?"

Apparently, some bird photographers think that any human artifacts shown on a bird photo immediately spoil the whole photo. The breeding ecology of the Yellow-bellied Warbler was actually studied exactly here at Nonggang in 2019 by 3 Chinese researchers. This included recording a total of 77,760 minutes of video.

They often become slower breeders, and most importantly, they lose their ability to disperse, meaning they get stranded on the island they live on. When humans arrived, with the entourage of camp followers that always follows humans, giving up the anti-predator behavious and, well, you can guess what happened next.

It seems the ones I got decent photos of are all juveniles – it generally seems to be easier to get photos of juveniles as they have not quite learned to avoid humans. Thank god that this does not apply to humans. Sometimes being a member of the human race feels very embarrassing.

In the case of Acorn Woodpeckers, they are cooperative breeders (as with many other polygynandrous species), which seems to predispose species to polygynandry.
