For three weeks in June, I traveled up and then down the eastern seaboard visiting ecological research sites. One particular resting place brought me to familiar birding territory: Pleasure House Point, Virginia Beach. When I was first learning to bird in the summer of 2013, I spent a summer living with my fiance in Virginia Beach.

As a librarian and women’s studies scholar, I greatly appreciate the research. Preferably, they should be wearing colors of purple, white, and gold, the branded hues of their movement. This is where Boase excels. I did often wonder while reading the book whether the result equaled the effort.

Interestingly, Chestnut-collared Longspur does appear under its brand-new official name, Thick-billed Longspur, though the description underneath uses the old name.
