The scientific species name of the Rusty-naped Pitta oatesi honors Eugene William Oates (1845-1911), an English civil servant in India and naturalist. His obituary was published in Nature.

Each year, US zoos label thousands of nonhuman animals 'surplus' and treat them accordingly" (87). If you like animals you will generally not want them to suffer and you won’t want them to go extinct. Animal rights is concerned with preventing the suffering or even use of animals by humans. You cannot care about the individual, not at that level of suffering.
