Out near the tidal flats that make up a good portion of this refuge, there were plenty of Red-winged Blackbirds. Today, I saw a handful of Mallards , two Common Mergansers, and a Wood Duck Family. Here is one of our pick-a-boo games. This Western Wood Pewee was going back and forth with a mouth full of bugs as well.

Desi was game and that convinced Daisy. You might think it would have been no big deal to take off to the Adirondacks for a day chasing a rare gull a couple of days before leaving your family for a week while you gallivant around Austria but you probably live alone and will continue to do so. Family twitching?

The boys knew what Owls looked like, they saw Screech Owls (and Barred and Great Horned Owls) at a local wildlife park, and we photographed Burrowing Owl families every year at Brian Piccolo Park. The Pigeon has spawned an empire of books, DVDs, plush toys, games, and musical theater. So, they knew that these were Real Owls.
