Lookout view to “The Prom” The old train station building at Foster is now a Men’s Shed , but the old train station at Fish Creek is the Community Garden. Fish Creek train station building. I have become very familiar with the birds along the trail. Superb Fairy-wrens are common along the trail as well.

On the first trip in 2012 we used public transport to get there and the train conveniently gets you to Macarthur Square shopping centre and you can then get a bus that drops you right at the entrance to the park. The website gives you an idea of the birds you can hope to encounter and there have been ongoing studies taking place since 1986.

Whilst we were planning our trip to Sydney we were hoping to fit some hiking and birding into our schedule and found a great website that would help us decide on some walks. I would recommend this if you are going to be out and about and most stations have regular trains all day including Sundays.

Last Sunday Grant was able to leave work in the afternoon and I had researched options of places we could get to within one hour of the city of Melbourne using public transport that would offer us some birding opportunities.
