I’ve been to the Sounds before, but I had never visited them specifically to bird, which means I hadn’t seen the specialities there. New Zealand Fur-seals are the most common pinniped found in New Zealand. This trip was to rectify that. Spotted Shags are endemic to New Zealand. So what are you waiting for?

Part of the world they wanted to transport was natural. There were no mammals, little game, and not many birds either. The reasons for this perceived lack of birds are threefold. Brush-tailed Possums were brought from Australia to help start a fur industry. Not everything that was brought and released established itself.
