I have caught a bus across Europe, but I can’t really claim to have “been” to Germany or Belgium. Perched high above the river were a number of birds of prey, including the one with the most evocative call of the African bush, the African Fish-eagle.

The red, white, and blue label features a glowering Bald Eagle ( Haliaeetus leucocephalus ) – the national bird of the United States – pulling apart its red shirt to bare a heavily muscled chest that’s emblazoned with the word “MERICA”. I didn’t get around to reviewing this last week in time for the Fourth of July.

Lesser Spotted Eagle , Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Lesser Spotted Eagles breed regularly with around 100 pairs in Germany, but unless you know where the territories are you are unlikely to see them. This allowed for my first very nice views at this species since the year 2001, which made me very happy.
