Not sure why they spend time in Shanghai in winter when they could come here though, but then again, I usually do not understand most of the behavior of humans either. One nice little story for my blog post lost. Yes, we have them in Shanghai as well. Blue-throated Bee-eaters build nests on sticks sticking out of the water.

It seems that like me, Oriental Storks are not that fond of humans. A study found that in areas with intense human activity, their nests were higher, while in safer environments, the nests were lower and closer to food resources, allowing parent storks to invest more in the nestlings. Well, they are birds, not humans.

In somewhat dubious English, the abstract of one paper on this species by Chinese authors states that “ Pycnonotus sinens has got used to the city life and become a kind of city bird that are closely associated with human” (of course, my Chinese – spoken only anyway – is far worse than this English).
