The Christian Science Monitor rightly points out that citizens and consumers need to get involved in endangered species protection, because at the CITES level, it's all about money and international politics.

The Purple Swamp-hen ( Porphyrio porphyrio ) I turned south, walking past large groups of picnickers which were being patrolled by Australian White Ibis , one of the species of ibis also known as the Sacred Ibis. An Australian White Ibis ( Threskiornis molucca ) that is part of a study of urban birds (tags have been reported!).

None of this does justice to the earth, and our unique place in it as a species which has great privileges and also appropriate responsibilities. And is video of a cow being pummeled to death with a bat worse than a cow being "processed" in a slaughterhouse? When is violence toward an animal in a video gratuitous? What do you think?
