It seems his family of 5, had rented a condo that sleeps 8, at Atlantis Resort, on Paradise Island, in the Bahamas. While this trip was primarily scheduled as a family rest/rest/vacation outing, with 13 days left in my Little Big Year, that plan is mostly out of the question. After all, exposing a child to nature is important in their development, right? Little Grebes and Least Grebes more than made up for not getting the Clark’s Grebe and Wallcreeper , Puerto Rican Tody , and Bahama Woodstar seem like a fair trade for Ross’s Gull. Family twitching? Would we do it again?

This is the third year that my family and some our close friends did a vacation together. Last year it was New Providence in the Bahamas. Upside-down, right side up, it doesn’t matter to Brown-headed Nuthatches. Two years ago it was Culebra, Puerto Rico.

We have escaped the clutches of the Bahamas, and are finally back “home” in Tucson, Texas. All in all, twenty six airplane flights this year, traveled around the world, to 11 countries, and not one single delay, or interruption of service, until the Bahamas. Bahamas Species – 58. The Little Big Year species – 1291.

That’s right. Black-and-white Warbler by Carlos Sanchez With the northern Bahamas just to the east and Cuba just to the south, southeast Florida biogeographically sits on the northern edge of the Caribbean and so the wintering wood-warbler species are mostly those typically found further south in the islands.
