In the late 80s I was invited by Zeiss to go to Wetzlar in Germany to see the company’s binoculars being manufactured, an invitation that was too good to refuse. I was one of a small group of journalists, each of whom was presented with the latest Dialyt 10×40 inscribed with our initials.

The Hidden Qualities of House Sparrows

The Italian Sparrow is not entirely confined to Italy but – not surprisingly – also occurs in neighbouring areas of Austria and Switzerland. There are currently no German records of the species, in spite of it occurring in Austria less than 35 km south of the German border.

Black Woodpecker: Officially a Nemesis
