Birding across the north of Australia in July

In Australia it is winter in July, but the weather is as perfect as you could hope for in the north of the country with daytime temperatures around 30c/86f and the night-time temperatures being around 20c/68f and rarely a cloud in the sky. It was an incredible time on the road and one which I will expand on over coming weeks.

Birding a flooded highway

Unfortunately we have only ever seen dead Barn Owls in the Broome area and one day it would be nice to see a bird hunting over the land. All the tracks onto the station property were underwater and all of the Brahman Cattle have moved to the highest ground that they can find. Birding Australia Black-winged Stilt Broome'

Broome’s wettest June on record

Grey Teal roosted around a dam alongside Black-fronted Dotterels and Red-kneed Dotterels and Australian Pratincoles were well-camouflaged amongst the cattle.
