Having observed the Cattle Egret in breeding plumage at the Derby Poo Ponds on June 19th we found ourselves at Windjana Gorge first thing the following morning. Western Australia remains closed to everybody from everywhere. There was a small group of Sulphur-crested Cockatoos being destructive as usual! Sulphur-crested Cockatoo.

There is a lot of bird movement around Australia at the moment due to the weather, so time to go and investigate! It actually looked like the station owner was breeding birds rather than cattle! This group were hanging out with some Plumed Whistling Ducks. The low pressure system has already brought Fork-tailed Swifts into view.

Following on from last week’s post about Langi Crossing and all that it has to offer in the way of wildlife with an emphasis on crocodiles I thought I should now expand on the birds that you may encounter during a visit! There is ample shade along the banks of the Fitzroy River to sit and enjoy the environment or go for a walk.

The Pacific is divided through the Behring Strait, leaving St Lawrence and The Aleutian Islands to the east and embracing all the south Pacific island groups into the Australasian Realm.
